Quartz is a crystalline mineral of natural stone, which is one of the inorganic materials. During the production process, it has been purified to basically eliminate harmful substances. In addition, the pressed and polished quartz stone has a dense and non-porous surface that is difficult to contain dirt, so it is safer.
Identification method
Appearance, the surface of a good quartz stone is smooth and supple to the touch, and the high content of quartz inside can reach about 94%. The inferior quartz stone feels a bit like plastic, with high resin content inside and poor wear resistance. It will change color and become thin after a few years.
Taste, high-quality quartz stone has no peculiar smell or has a lighter peculiar smell. If the purchased quartz stone has an unusually pungent peculiar smell, choose it carefully.
Scratch resistance. We mentioned earlier that the Mohs hardness of quartz stone is as high as 7.5 degrees, which can prevent iron scratches to a certain extent.
In view of this feature, we can use a key or a sharp knife to make a few strokes on the surface of the quartz stone. If the scratch is white, it is mostly a low-quality product. If it is black, you can buy it with confidence.
Thickness, we can look at the cross section of the stone when selecting, the wider the cross section, the better the quality.
The thickness of good quartz stone is generally 1.5 to 2.0 cm, while the thickness of inferior quartz stone is usually only 1 to 1.3 cm. The thinner the thickness, the worse its bearing capacity.
Absorbing water, the surface of high-quality quartz stone is dense and non-porous, so the water absorption is very poor.
We can sprinkle some water on the surface of the countertop and let it stand for several hours. If the surface is impermeable and white, it means that the water absorption rate of the material is relatively low, which means that the density of quartz stone is relatively high and it is a qualified product.
Fire-resistant, high-quality quartz stone can withstand heat below 300°C.
Therefore, we can use a lighter or stove to burn the stone to see if it has burn marks or smells. Inferior quartz stone will have an unpleasant smell or even be scorched, and high-quality quartz stone will basically have no response.
For acid and alkali, we can sprinkle some white vinegar or alkaline water on the countertop for a few minutes, and then observe whether the surface reacts.
Generally speaking, bubbles will appear on the surface of inferior quartz stone. This is a manifestation of low quartz content. The probability of cracking and deformation during future use is high. Choose carefully.
Stain-resistant, good quartz stone is usually easy to scrub, and it can be easily taken care of even if it is dripping with difficult-to-remove dirt.
The surface finish of inferior quartz stone is not high, and the quartz content is relatively low. The stains can easily penetrate into the stone and are difficult to clean.
